Sitting still
Global Generation use this method at the very beginning of a session with young people as a way of getting ready for it. It clears the mind and de-clutters the thoughts that might be going through it in order to help you focus on the next topic at hand.
The guidelines are:
1. Still up straight and with the soles of your feet on the ground (no crossed legs or slouching!).
2. You can have your eyes open or closed but if they are open, focus on one spot on the ground so your attention doesn’t waver.
3. Breathe in and out, focussing on your breath in the diaphragm area, the air coming in and out of your lungs.
4. Be attentive, fixed in the present.
Imagine you are a fish in the ocean – surrounded by lots of other different types of fish, whizzing around you and dashing through the water. Then imagine they are all gone. You are the only fish in the ocean. Let go of what has happened in the day or what will happen later, allow your thoughts to melt away from you.
Try being completely still for 5 or 10 minutes.
